This state agency came into existence on July 1, 2005, headed by the State Chief Information Officer, appointed by the Governor and a member of the Cabinet.
Two former divisions of the Minnesota Department of Administration,
the Minnesota Office of Technology and the InterTechnologies Group, were merged into the new agency.
According to the press release announcing the appointment of the state CIO, July 25, 2005, the agency starts existence "with a budget of $83 million and staff of over 300. Minnesota state government is estimated to spend $600 million per year on information technology through 66 different agencies, 1,000 networks and operates over 500 websites."
