Minnesota Electronic Court Case Files & Records

Resources in this category:
Minnesota Court Records Online (Minnesota Judicial Branch)
Public Access to Case Records (Gateway to Minnesota Trial Court Public Access) (Minnesota Judicial Branch)
Read all the disclaimers and explanations on this page, then click "I accept" if you want to actually get to the records search interface, and you'll be presented with the search screen.

Our initial impression as this service was announced in November 2007: You may get frustrated at first if you are not a pro at court records search. It could be friendlier but there is help (though the help link itself is easy to miss unless you know it is there). You cannot retrieve results by party using a partial name alone but you can use a wildcard. (See below.) You get a report of parties, counsel, dates, docket entries, and judgment amounts. You do not get the actual documents filed.

A key tip buried in help is the section labeled "searching tips." For example, you can do a wildcard search using an asterisk (*). Try this: run this name search: Cargill*. This is a leap forward for the state court system. Minnesota had fallen behind many other states in electronic access to court information.

Ramsey County and Dakota County will be the last to come on the system in 2008. Note there are substantial limitations on the information provided "remotely" as compared to information available if you actually visit the courthouse.

Minnesota Appellate Courts Case Management System (P-MACS) Login Page (Minnesota Judicial Branch)
"For cases that were open in either The Court of Appeals or The Supreme Court on March 3, 2003 and later, P-MACS provides the following information about the case: case title, appellate case number, parties, attorneys, docket entries, and links to orders or opinions issued in the case after March 3, 2003. For cases that were archived before March 3, 2003, only case title, case number and abbreviated party information are available."

The introductory screen also advises data is one day old.
